Seafood is an important part of a well balanced diet. Seafood is a great source of high-quality protein, is low in saturated fat, and is rich in many vitamins and minerals. Seafood is the source of most of the omega-3 fatty acids, EPA and DHA, found in the American diet.
The heart-healthy benefits of seafood are so pronounced that the American Heart Association recommends at least two servings per week. Studies show that people who eat seafood may be less likely to suffer from bipolar disorder and it can also help an individuals’ battle with depression.

Shrimp are a good source of cardio-protective omega-3 fatty acids, noted for their anti-inflammatory effects and ability to prevent the formation of blood clots. Individuals whose diets provide greater amounts of omega-3 fatty polyunsaturated fatty acids, such as shrimp, have lower blood pressure than those who consume less. Shrimp also provide omega-3 fats, which have been found to greatly reduce risk of colorectal cancer. Shrimp is low in saturated fat and is a very good source of protein, selenium, and vitamin B12. |

Fish
Fish oils may provide a protective effect in minimizing the development of several chronic degenerative diseases and may have a therapeutic effect in certain cases like arthritis, atherosclerosis, and vasospasm. The Journal of the American Medical Association found that modest consumption of fish reduces risk of coronary death by 36 percent and the rate of death by 17 percent. Omega-3 fatty acids are also believed to improve learning ability in children, decrease triglycerides, lower blood pressure, reduce blood clotting, enhance immune function and improve arthritis symptoms. Consuming one to two servings a week of fish, particularly fish that's rich in omega-3 fatty acids, appears to reduce the risk of heart disease, particularly sudden cardiac death. Fish Oil May Help Ease Back Pain: A recent study shows that fish oil supplements containing Omega-3 fatty acids might help treat neck and back pain. Such supplements might be "a safer alternative" to non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs for some patients with spine-related pain. Fish oils have been found to help prevent age-related cognitive declines, ease back pain and protect against retinal degenerative diseases.
